The work was distributed by famous revolutionary figures, many people in the USSR said that the novel «The Gadfly» was their favorite work.
So what is all the same such an attractiveness of the novel, which even today excites the souls and thoughts of readers. It is likely that everyone will find in this work something interesting and close just for themselves. Indeed, the book touches upon themes that are eternally exciting for humanity: love and hatred, friendship and betrayal, faith and family values. This is a novel about difficult relationships, youthful maximalism, unrealized opportunities and broken lives.
During one of his confessions, student Arthur Burton tells his spiritual father and mentor that he has become a member of the revolutionary group «Young Italy». The young man is going to fight for the freedom of his native country. The mentor fails to dissuade him from this venture, and some time later Arthur and his party member are arrested. In Young Italy, they think that Arthur is a traitor, and Burton himself understands that it was the priest who violated the secret of confession and betrayed him. It seems to the young man that the whole world has taken up arms against him and the only way out is to disappear from him forever.
